Soul Retrieval: Healing Trauma & Finding Wholeness

Have you ever felt as though a part of you is missing? Perhaps you have experienced a difficult relationship, trauma, grief, loss or a major life change and although life has continued, something inside you no longer feels quite the same.
Soul retrieval is an ancient shamanic healing concept based on the belief that during overwhelming or traumatic experiences, aspects of our soul essence can separate as a way of protecting us from the full impact of what we are experiencing. This is often referred to as soul loss.
Sandra Ingerman, an internationally renowned shamanic teacher and author describes soul retrieval as a process of reconnecting with and bringing home those parts of ourselves that may have become disconnected through difficult life experiences. (Ingerman, 1991). These parts of ourselves which have separated can also carry qualities such as joy, creativity, trust, love and our ability to fully engage with life.
During the sacred space of a healing session, I can sense where there is a fragmented part. Working intuitively I connect with my client's soul essence and invite what is ready to return. The experience can be deeply personal and may bring feelings, memories, images or insights into awareness.
The Experience of Soul Retrieval
Many of my clients describe soul retrieval as a deeply moving and transformative experience. One of the most beautiful aspects is the sensation of actually feeling the energy of a part of themselves returning. Some describe this as warmth, tingling, movement or a feeling of energy flowing back into their body, while others simply experience a profound sense that something within them has come home.
Following a soul retrieval session, clients have told me they feel more connected to themselves and more aware of who they truly are. They may notice a renewed sense of empowerment, confidence and inner strength, as though they have reclaimed qualities of themselves that had been missing or inaccessible.
For some, the experience brings greater clarity around their life direction. They describe feeling more focused, motivated and able to move forward with decisions that may previously have felt difficult or confusing. There can be a sense of becoming more grounded and trusting their own intuition.
One client described the experience as “feeling like I had found myself again.” Another spoke of feeling more confident in following the path that had been calling them for some time.
Every soul retrieval experience is unique. For some people, the changes are subtle and unfold gradually over the following days or weeks; for others there can be an immediate sense of something shifting within them.
For me, one of the most rewarding parts of this work is witnessing clients reconnect with their own inner light, strength and sense of possibility – and seeing them begin to move forward feeling more whole, empowered and connected to their soul’s direction.
Soul retrieval is not about becoming someone different. It is about remembering and embodying more fully who you truly are.
